This is my second sister, Lisa. Today is her birthday. She'll be annoyed that I used this picture, so I'm sorry, Lisa. But not really because I think this is a great picture. She looks beautiful, her smile is beautiful and yes, she's an amazing cook.
She's a lot more than a pretty smile and delicious treats, though. She's a mom to seven of the cutest kids you've ever seen. She's a singer with a crazy good voice who could have followed any musical path she wanted but she wanted to have a family. She's a worrier who prays and overcomes her fears with faith. She's witty, fun and sentimental.
When I left for college, Lisa was only eight years old. We lived in Missouri and I was attending school in Idaho. My mom later told me that after I left to go back to school, Lisa sat on the couch, holding a picture of me with tears streaming down her face. That kind of love and devotion does something to a big sister's heart.
I'm so thankful for Lisa who isn't just a sister but is also one of my best friends.
Happy birthday, Lisa. I love you.
